STATE EOC ACTIVATION LEVEL: Crisis Action Team

WebEOC Incident Name: 008-14 Winter Weather - Statewide – 6, February 2014

 

SITUATION: GOHSEP is currently monitoring an upper level disturbance that is producing winter weather in regions of the state today.  While the forecast currently calls for minor impacts and little to no accumulations, snow and sleet has begun to fall moderately in different parts of the state. There are no current closures (government/schools), and there have been minimal impacts to the regions. For road closures specific to your area, please visit www.511la.org

 

GOHSEP will continue to monitor this fluid situation throughout its entirety.

 

The breakdown of impacts are below:

 

NWS Lake Charles:

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Rapides and Avoyelles Parish until 2:00pm.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Vernon, Allen, Beauregard, and Evangeline Parish until 12:00pm.

 

  • For Central LA: Light sleet/snow is currently falling, but should turn into all rain (20% light rain) by the afternoon. Some elevated surfaces may see small amounts of ice.

  • For Southwest LA: A mix of light rain and light sleet is possible but should taper off by the afternoon. No ice accumulations expected

  • For South Central LA: A mix of light rain and light sleet is possible but should taper off by the afternoon. No ice accumulations expected

  • End time: Late afternoon

  • Will conduct 2:30pm webinar 2/6/14

 

NWS Jackson:

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Catahoula, Concordia, Franklin, Tensas Parish until 5:00pm

 

  • For areas in the Winter Weather Advisory: Sleet/snow is currently falling, could see up to an inch of accumulation on elevated surfaces and roads.

  • For extreme Northeastern LA: There is a slight chance of flurries or light dusting of snow.

  • End time: Late afternoon

 

NWS Shreveport:

 

  • For areas around south of I-20 corridor: There is a slight chance of snow flurries (about 30%). Some areas are currently seeing sleet/snow.

  • For areas north of the above mentioned area: There is a slight chance of snow (about 20%).

  • Little to no accumulation is expected. There are no plans for issuing a Winter Weather Advisory at this time.

  • End time: afternoon

     

NWS Slidell:

 

  • For areas around the northern bordering state line, to include Point Coupee through Washington Parish: Sleet/rain/snow is currently falling.  No accumulation is expected.

  • For areas south of the above mentioned area: Light sleet is currently falling. No accumulation is expected.

  • There are no plans for issuing a Winter Weather Advisory at this time.

  • End time: afternoon

  • Will conduct 2:00pm webinar 2/6/14
