10 February 2014

WebEOC Incident Name: 009-14 Winter Weather - Statewide – 10-11, February 2014

 

SITUATION: GOHSEP is currently monitoring an upper level disturbance that will produce winter weather in regions of the state this week.  A cold front is moving through the state today and is expected to stall over the region, setting up for a few different scenarios. Currently,  the central and northern parishes are forecast to see some winter weather, while the southern parishes are forecast to see rainfall with totals reaching almost 3 inches through Wednesday.  Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings have already been issued for multiple regions throughout the state. GOHSEP will continue to monitor this fluid situation throughout its entirety.

 

The breakdown of impacts are below:

 

NWS Jackson:

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for East Carroll, Morehouse, Richland, West Carroll from February 10, 2014 at 6:00pm until February 11, 2014 at 6:00pm.

A  Winter Weather Advisory is in effect Franklin, Madison, and Tensas from February 10, 2014 at 6:00pm until February 11, 2014 at 6:00pm.

-        For areas in the Winter Storm Warning: .25 to .50 sleet/freezing rain accumulation is expected

-        For areas in the Winter Weather Advisory: .10 to .20 freezing rain accumulation is expected

-        Impacts include icing of trees, bridges, and overpasses. Increased risk of power outages as well.

-        Duration: Monday evening through Tuesday.

 

NWS Shreveport:

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Bossier, Caddo, De Soto, Grant, La Salle, Natchitoches, Red River, Sabine, Webster, Winn from February 11, 2014 at 12:00am until February 12, 2014 at 6:00am.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Bienville, Caldwell, Claiborne, Jackson, Lincoln, Ouachita, Union, from February 10, 2014 at 1:00 pm until February 12, 2014 at 6:00am.

 

-        For the entire northwest LA: Less than .25 inch of ice accumulation is expected.

-        Impacts include ice accumulations on above ground objects, especially bridges, overpasses, trees, and power lines.

-        Duration: Monday evening through Wednesday.

 

NWS Lake Charles:

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Avoyelles, Rapides, Vernon from February 11, 2014 at 3:00am until February 11, 2014 at 12:00pm.

-        For Central LA: Freezing rain is expected, however temperatures are forecast to get above freezing during the day. Some elevated surfaces may see accumulations of ice. Expected ice accumulation .10 of an inch.

-        For Southwest LA: Rain is expected Monday and Tuesday, however by Wednesday morning some freezing rain may be possible as temperatures get below freezing.

-        For South Central LA: Rain is expected. No ice accumulations expected

-        Duration: Monday evening through Wednesday morning.

 

NWS Slidell:

-        Widespread rain event for southeast LA. Rainfall totals could reach up to 3 inches for the next 72 hours.

-        There are no plans for issuing a Winter Weather Advisory at this time.

-        Duration: Monday evening through Wednesday morning.
