STATE EOC ACTIVATION LEVEL: Crisis Action Team

WebEOC Incident Name: 009-14 Winter Weather - Statewide – 10-11, February 2014

 

SITUATION: GOHSEP is currently monitoring an upper level disturbance that is producing winter weather in regions of the state this week.  A cold front is moving through the state today and is expected to stall over the region, setting up for a few different scenarios. Currently,  the central and northern parishes are forecast to see some winter weather, while the southern parishes are forecast to see rainfall with totals reaching almost 3 inches through Wednesday.  Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings have already been issued for multiple regions throughout the state. GOHSEP will continue to monitor this fluid situation throughout its entirety.

 

The breakdown of impacts are below:

 

NWS Jackson:

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for East Carroll, Franklin, Madison, Morehouse, Richland, West Carroll until February 12, 2014 at 12:00pm.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Catahoula and Tensas until February 12, 2014 at 12:00pm.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Concordia until February 12, 2014 at 12:00am.

  • For areas in the Winter Storm Warning: .25 to 1 foot sleet/freezing rain accumulation is expected

  • For areas in the Winter Weather Advisory: .10 to .25 inches freezing rain accumulation is expected

  • Impacts include icing of trees, bridges, and overpasses. Increased risk of power outages as well.

  • Duration: through Wednesday.

     

     

    NWS Shreveport:

    A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Caldwell, Claiborne, De Soto, Grant, Jackson, La Salle, Lincoln, Natchitoches, Ouachita, Red River, Sabine, Union, Webster, Winn until February 12, 2014 at 6:00am.

  • For the entire northwest LA: Between .25 - .50 inch of ice accumulation is expected.

  • Impacts include ice accumulations on above ground objects, especially bridges, overpasses, trees, and power lines.

  • Duration: through Wednesday morning.

    NWS Lake Charles:

    A of Winter Weather Advisory for Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Rapides, Evangeline, and St. Landry until February 12, 2014 at 8:00am.

  • For Central LA: Freezing rain is expected starting around 6pm/9pm tonight, ending by 4am. Some elevated surfaces may see accumulations of ice. Expected ice accumulation up to .10 of an inch.

  • For Southwest LA: Wednesday morning (12am-3am) some freezing rain may be possible as temperatures get below freezing, however no accumulation is expected.

  • For South Central LA: Wednesday morning (12am-6am) some freezing rain/drizzle may be possible as temperatures get below freezing, however no accumulation is expected.

  • Duration: through Wednesday morning.

     

    NWS Slidell:

  • Widespread rain event for southeast LA. Rainfall totals could reach up to 3 inches by tomorrow.

  • There are no plans for issuing a Winter Weather Advisory at this time.

  • Duration: through Wednesday.
