Situational Awareness Report

29 September 2016

Tropical Weather Outlook: The National Hurricane Center is currently monitoring Hurricane Mathew in the Caribbean region. Please stay tuned to the National Hurricane Center and your Local National Weather Service Office for the latest updates. Hurricane Mathew is NOT projected to have an impact on Louisiana or the Gulf of Mexico region.

Hurricane Mathew:  The center of Hurricane Matthew is located near latitude 14.2 North, longitude 67.0 West. Matthew is moving toward the west near 17 mph, and a general westward motion 
with some decrease in forward speed is expected during the next couple of days. Reports from an Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate that the maximum sustained winds have increased to
near 75 mph with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is expected during the next 48 hours.
Hurricane-force-winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up
to 205 miles from the center. Hurricane Mathew is projected to turn to the north over the weekend and is not forecasted to enter the Gulf of Mexico at this time.
