GOHSEP DAILY OPERATIONAL REPORT
10 January 2012

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

GOHSEP has revised the Daily Operational Report reporting procedures:  Effective today, GOHSEP will no longer provide a “Daily Operational Report” during non emergency events. 

A GOHSEP “Special Event Report” will be disseminated when an imminent threat or emergency exists within the state.

 

STATE EOC ACTIVATION LEVEL: Level 4 (Normal operations)

 

1. STATE WIDE EVENTS:   

No state wide events to report at this time.

 

2. LOUISIANA WEATHER:

SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA:  Today has a 10 percent chance for isolated showers throughout the day.  Wednesday through Saturday will be mostly sunny and clear each day. 

Temperatures: Today: 64/44, Wednesday: 66/45, Thursday: 57/28, Friday: 55/33, Saturday: 60/39

HAZARDOUS WEATHER:  No hazardous weather reported at this time

 

Atchafalaya River at Morgan City:

Current Stage: 4.73 feet (Minor Flood Stage)

Minor Flood Stage is from 4 -7 feet

Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast

POTENTIAL IMPACT: At 4-5 feet, water may move up the bank and across access roads below the city dock. Floodwall gates should be closed by the 5 foot stage to protect against higher stages. Vessel traffic will be affected by stronger river current and vessel safety rules will be strictly enforced by the U.S. Coast Guard.

 

SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA: Today through tonight will be partly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of rain before midnight.  Wednesday through Saturday will be mostly clear and sunny each day. 

Temperatures:  Today: 71/51, Wednesday: 61/51, Thursday: 57/36, Friday: 50/40, Saturday: 55/44

HAZARDOUS WEATHER:  There is a slight risk of an isolated severe thunderstorm or two across portions of southeast Louisiana this afternoon.  The main area of concern is east of Interstate 55.  These storms will have the potential to produce strong damaging winds and isolated tornadoes. 

A small craft advisory is in effect across all coastal waters.  

 

CENTRAL LOUISIANA:   Today has a 10 percent chance for isolated showers throughout the day.  Wednesday through Saturday will be mostly sunny and clear each day. 

Temperatures: Today: 64/44, Wednesday: 66/45, Thursday: 57/28, Friday: 55/33, Saturday: 60/39

HAZARDOUS WEATHER:  No hazardous weather reported at this time

NORTHERN LOUISIANA:    Today will be mostly cloudy with a 70 percent chance of thunderstorms.  Wednesday through Saturday will be mostly sunny and clear each day.

Temperatures:  Today: 58/42, Wednesday: 62/37, Thursday: 50/24, Friday: 51/29, Saturday: 55/31

HAZARDOUS WEATHER:   A surface high pressure will be building south across the region the late half of the work week with freezing temperatures returning to many locations northwest of the Interstate 30 Corridor Wednesday night and area wide for Thursday and Friday nights.
