The National Weather Service is watching an area of weather off the Atlantic coast of Florida. It is expected to move westward over the next 48 hours and has the potential to form as a tropical system near the Louisiana coast. At this time, it is unlikely that it will strengthen to anything greater than a tropical storm, which would be named Dexter. The greatest risk to Louisiana, in general, and Lafayette, in particular, is for prolonged, drawn-out tropical rains from Thursday through Saturday.
The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) will host a weather coordination call this afternoon. As more information becomes available, I will update the team. As this week progresses, please remain weather aware, especially later in the week and into the weekend.
I have attached the latest flood update from the NWS Lake Charles for your awareness.
