Louisiana State Partners –

Here is an update regarding the heavy rain threat through Saturday, associated with a tropical disturbance moving through southern Louisiana.

Changes from previous update:

  • The heavy rain threat continues to decrease into the weekend

Overview:

·  A Flood Watch remains in effect for portions of southern Louisiana (see graphic below for exact times and locations)

Heavy Rain and Flooding Impacts:

·  The current forecast calls for an additional 1-3″ of rain mainly across southwest Louisiana, with lower amounts elsewhere. Higher amounts are likely, and localized storm totals of 10″ or more (including rain that has already fallen) are still possible, mainly in southern portions of the state.

·  Localized flash flooding will continue to be a threat as some storms will be capable of producing high rainfall rates over 2″ per hour.

· Ponding of water in low-lying and poor-drainage areas is likely, with some road closures still possible. Urban areas will be particularly vulnerable, as high rainfall rates can easily overwhelm local drainage capacity.

The graphics below highlight the rainfall threats associated with this system.
