One Week Left to Apply for FEMA Assistance after Tropical Storm Arthur

BATON ROUGE, La. – Louisianans have just one week left to apply for federal disaster assistance if they sustained damage or losses from Tropical Storm Arthur on June 17-24.

Homeowners, renters and students who live in Avoyelles, Lafourche, Pointe Coupee, St. Landry, St. Tammany and Terrebonne parishes may be eligible for FEMA Individual Assistance. The deadline to apply is Thursday, Oct. 1.

1. How to Apply

The fastest way to apply to FEMA is online at DisasterAssistance.gov.

You may also use the FEMA mobile app or call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. Lines are open from 6 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. for assistance in multiple languages. If you use a relay service, such as video relay (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service.

1. How to Keep Your Recovery on Track

After you apply for FEMA assistance, it’s important to respond to letters or phone calls from FEMA. Calls may come from unfamiliar numbers or area codes. Missing or incorrect information could delay the delivery of FEMA disaster-related funds. FEMA encourages applicants to keep their information as current as possible.

• Your current housing situation, phone number or mailing address
• Adding or removing the name of someone designated to speak for you
• Adding or changing names of household members and number of people living in your home
• Changes in your application for FEMA assistance
• Correcting or verifying home and property damage
• Updating your payment preference

         Small Business Administration Loans Available

Additionally, low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) are available to Louisiana residents, businesses of all sizes and nonprofit organizations that are recovering from Tropical Storm Arthur. The loan application deadline for physical property damage is also Oct. 1. Information available at the MySBA Loan Portal https://lending.sba.gov or the SBA Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955.
