WEATHER NOTICE – FREEZING CONDITIONS

UPDATE 2

2:30 p.m.

GLPC is monitoring winter weather reports, as freezing conditions are forecast for our area for the next few days. Port Fourchon businesses, South Lafourche Airport users, and local residents should be alert for updates and prepared for adverse weather conditions. Major impacts to travel are expected from Tuesday into Wednesday. Please plan ahead to minimize potential impacts to your operations.

LOCAL ROADS AND BRIDGES

• DOTD has worked to prepare the elevated highway in advance of expected weather, but please be aware of the potential for closure if weather conditions necessitate.
• There are no roadway closures at this time, but all South Lafourche pontoon bridges will be closed to vehicular traffic as of 5:00 p.m. tonight per Lafourche Parish Government.
• Based on National Weather Service information, it is likely we will have winter precipitation occurring in the lower part of Lafourche Parish. Be prepared for roadway impacts. Local and state agencies will be monitoring bridges and highways as temperatures drop below freezing.

WARNINGS, WATCHES, & ADVISORIES

• WINTER STORM WARNING in effect late Monday night into Tuesday evening, with mixed snow precipitation and sleet one inch or greater.

WATER CONSERVATION

• Fourchon customers, if at all possible, please cut back on filling tanks so the water system can maintain safe water pressure and have reserves for emergency response. Port Fourchon’s response to conservation requests for past weather events did help with maintaining water pressure in the parish system.
