(LAFAYETTE, LA) As the state prepares for the upcoming hurricane season, the Louisiana Business Emergency Operations Center (LABEOC) reminds businesses to register with the free business network (register.labeoc.org) to receive alerts from their upgraded communications platform. The LABEOC is a support function of the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) state emergency operations center that supports the business community during a disaster.
As a LABEOC member, you can receive the latest news and notifications related to the business community and respond to requests, status updates, or roadblocks to enhance situational awareness between the public and private sectors. Now is the time to register your business for these free services. You can also register as a concerned citizen without a company profile.
The enhanced communications database, created by the National Incident Management System and Advanced Technology (NIMSAT) Institute, allows emergency officials to have greater visibility into the business community during a disaster. The goal is to get business back to normal as soon as possible.
The new system can
- Expedite the procurement process
- Automate processing with mobile-friendly information collection
- Streamline communications through SMS and email
The system allows state officials to
- Serve the needs of the business community efficiently and quickly
- Coordinate contractors, subcontractors, and disaster contracts
- Search businesses in affected areas by geographic location with pinpoint accuracy or by search by type of good or services provided
The LABEOC has supported the business community through dozens of activations since 2010. The effort is a partnership between GOHSEP, and the Louisiana Economic Development and is managed by the NIMSAT Institute at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
