Severe Weather Threat Returns on Saturday

Friday 7 AM
The NWS Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed most of Louisiana under an “ENHANCED Risk” (3-out-of-5 on the threat scale) for severe storms on Saturday, with the remainder of the state under a “SLIGHT Risk” (2/5).
NOTE: The SPC maps are titled Feb 14 (Friday), but the titles include “Day 2” clarification, indicating tomorrow (Saturday).
Additionally, the NWS Weather Prediction Center (WPC) has highlighted northeastern LA with a “SLIGHT Risk” for excessive rains that could produce local flooding.
The SPC notes that all modes of severe weather will be possible, including damaging winds, a few tornadoes, large hail, and frequent lightning (not shown).
The northern half of the state will be most vulnerable to severe storms, which will arrive earlier in the day. The SPC also highlights an elevated risk of tornadoes achieving EF-2 intensity or greater (the ‘hatched’ areas on the map).
The NWS’s HRRR is shown as a general guideline for the cold front’s advance across Louisiana during the day. The timeline could change by a few hours between now and Saturday.
This event looks to be more active than Wednesday’s severe threat.
