Good day Private sector partners,
As we continue to prepare for the historic winter weather entering our area, the LABEOC wants to highlight a couple of points to our network.
- The Governor has declared a state of emergency for this event. Additionally, there is a transportation waiver in place. Extended periods of closure is expected along the I-10 and I-12 Corridor due to ice and snow accumulations. It is strongly encouraged that national transportation carriers use the I-20 corridor for the next 3-5 days.
- Any frozen precipitation that falls on Tuesday is likely to remain until Thursday. The temperature is likely to not get above freezing on Wednesday as well as the forecast is for overcast skies, these conditions will contribute to snow and ice remaining in place until conditions change on Thursday.
- If you have not yet, please take precautions to protect pipes at your home and business facilities. Along the I-10/12 corridor, some areas may experience as much as 36 hours or more of continuous freezing temperatures, which may result in “hard freeze” conditions. Preventive measures in this area will pay dividends on the back side of this event.
The LABEOC will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as the situation changes. Stay aware of changes to the weather forecasts and local officials for specific guidance in your area. Please remain safe and contact the LABEOC if there is anything we can do to assist during the historic winter weather event.
